Mr. Sherman (for himself and Ms. Norton) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and in addition to the Committee on Armed Services, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned
A BILL
To prohibit the United States from deploying or otherwise assigning any troops for duty to Greenland except at the invitation of the Kingdom of Denmark, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the “Hands Off Greenland Act”.
SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON SENDING TROOPS.
On and after the date of the enactment of this Act, the President may not deploy or otherwise assign any member of the United States Armed Forces for duty to Greenland except in response to an explicit invitation of the Kingdom of Denmark. No Federal funds are authorized to be made available to deploy or otherwise assign such troops on or after such date of enactment, except those deployed at the explicit invitation of the Kingdom of Denmark. <all>
