HR 69 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Freedom to Petition the Government Act
To amend title 29, District of Columbia Official Code, to treat meetings held by nonprofit organizations with officials of the Federal Government which are held in the District of Columbia at locations owned or leased by the Federal Government as activities not constituting doing business in the District of Columbia for purposes of determining whether such organizations are required to register with the District of Columbia.
Summary
This bill amends District of Columbia law to exempt certain nonprofit organizations from DC business registration requirements. Tax-exempt nonprofit organizations that hold meetings with Members of Congress or other federal officials at locations owned or leased by the federal government would not be considered as doing business in the District of Columbia. This would allow such nonprofits to meet with federal officials without triggering DC business registration obligations.
