HR 6142 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To require union contract votes to be carried out through a secret ballot election, to prohibit unions from authorizing strikes unless a majority of members of the union vote to authorize a strike, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill requires that collective bargaining agreements be approved by a majority vote of union members in good standing conducted by secret ballot, with union members receiving the agreement at least 72 hours before the vote. The bill also requires that unions may not authorize strikes unless approved by a majority vote of members in good standing conducted by secret ballot. These requirements amend the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act and the National Labor Relations Act, and take effect 18 months after the bill's enactment.
