Summary

HR 6136, the Protecting Union Representation and Elections Act (PURE Act), amends the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 to require union officer elections to be conducted by secret ballot vote of members. Currently, unions have the option to elect officers through a delegate convention or through union officers representing members, but this bill eliminates those alternatives. Under this bill, union members would directly vote by secret ballot to elect their officers. The change takes effect 18 months after the bill becomes law.
