HR 6000 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend title 38, United States Code, to improve the collection and analysis of data regarding certain suicides by veterans, and for other purposes.
Summary
The Veterans' Sentinel Act directs the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish a working group within 90 days to collect and analyze data about suicides and suicide attempts by veterans on VA property. The working group will review existing data sources including root cause analyses and the VA's Behavioral Health Autopsy Program, and will coordinate with VA medical centers and field offices. The bill requires the VA to improve its data collection processes to consolidate information from multiple sources into a unified system. The department must provide Congress with annual briefings on the working group's findings and submit a final report with recommendations after the group operates for two to five years.
