BOPEN Act of 2025

To provide for the payment of staff of the Bureau of Prisons.

Introduced Oct 10, 2025

Latest action (Oct 10, 2025) Referred to the House Committee on Appropriations.

Summary

This bill provides emergency federal funding from the Treasury to pay the salaries and operating expenses of Bureau of Prisons staff during government funding lapses for fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The funding does not apply to Bureau of Prisons officers who are required to be appointed by the President with Senate confirmation. The bill ensures that Bureau of Prisons employees continue to receive payment during periods when regular appropriations are not in effect.
