Summary

This bill amends the Medicaid program to remove a long-standing exclusion that prevents federal Medicaid funds from paying for items and services provided to patients in institutions for mental diseases. The bill also removes age restrictions that previously limited Medicaid coverage to patients 65 years of age or older in certain circumstances. These changes would expand Medicaid coverage for patients receiving care in mental health institutions. The amendments take effect on October 1, 2025, and apply to services furnished on or after that date.
