To reaffirm the trust status of land taken into trust by the United States pursuant to the Act of June 18, 1934, for the benefit of an Indian Tribe that was federally recognized on the date that the land was taken into trust.
Summary
This bill reaffirms the trust status of lands that the U.S. government has held in trust for federally recognized Indian Tribes under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934. It specifies that any land placed into trust before this bill's enactment remains trust land if the Tribe benefiting from the trust was federally recognized when the land was taken into trust. The bill provides a clear statement that such lands retain their trust status, resolving any questions about the validity of land held in trust for tribes that were recognized at the time of the transfer.
