HR 4316 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Fight for the American Dream Act
To amend title 10, United States Code, to authorize the enlistment of certain aliens in the Armed Forces, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill authorizes the enlistment in the Armed Forces of persons who possess an employment authorization document issued under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, thereby allowing DACA recipients to serve in the military. The bill amends the naturalization provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act to expand eligibility for naturalization through military service and to modernize the language in those provisions. Specifically, the bill removes prior restrictions and expands eligibility to include persons from freely associated states, and broadens the types of military service that qualify for expedited naturalization to include active status in the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve, not just active-duty status. The bill consolidates naturalization-through-service provisions by striking one section and modernizing another, updating terminology throughout to be gender-neutral. These changes allow DACA recipients and residents of freely associated states to serve in the military and potentially become United States citizens through that service.
