Summary

This bill codifies the Environmental Protection Agency's national drinking water regulation for PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) into federal law. The regulation being codified is the EPA's "PFAS National Primary Drinking Water Regulation" that was issued in April 2024. By converting this EPA regulation into law through this bill, Congress would give the PFAS drinking water standards the force and effect of law. This would formalize and preserve the EPA's requirements for limiting PFAS in public water systems. The regulation would apply as it was in effect on June 25, 2024.
