District of Columbia Local Juror Non-Discrimination Act of 2025
To amend title 11, District of Columbia Official Code, to prohibit the exclusion of individuals from service on a District of Columbia jury on account of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Summary
This bill amends District of Columbia law to prohibit excluding individuals from jury service based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The legislation revises the DC code's definition of "sex" discrimination in jury selection to explicitly include sexual orientation (heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality), gender identity, sex stereotypes, pregnancy and related medical conditions, sex characteristics including intersex traits, and perceptions or beliefs about a person's sex. The changes apply both to direct discrimination and to exclusion based on association with or perception concerning another person's sex or sexual orientation. The amendments standardize these definitions across both the jury selection procedures and the remedies available for discrimination violations in DC court proceedings.
