HR 3500 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to reauthorize the public safety and community policing grant program under part Q of title I of that Act.
Summary
The bill reauthorizes the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) on the Beat grant program, which provides federal funding to support local law enforcement hiring and deployment. The bill updates the program's authorization level to $1,163,032,000 annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030, an increase from the previous authorization. The COPS program provides grants to state and local law enforcement agencies to hire additional police officers and implement community policing strategies.
