HR 237 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to deem foods containing xylitol as misbranded unless the label or labeling of such foods contains a warning specifying the toxic effects of xylitol for dogs if ingested, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require warning labels on foods containing xylitol. Foods with xylitol must include a label or labeling that specifies the toxic effects of xylitol for dogs if ingested; foods without this warning would be considered misbranded under federal law. The Food and Drug Administration must issue an interim final rule within six months of the law's enactment and a final rule within one year to implement these requirements.
