HR 1492 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.

To amend title XI of the Social Security Act to equalize the negotiation period between small-molecule and biologic candidates under the Drug Price Negotiation Program.
Summary
This bill amends the Social Security Act to modify the Drug Price Negotiation Program, which allows Medicare to negotiate prices for covered drugs. Currently, biologic drugs (drugs manufactured from living organisms) receive an 11-year protection period before they can be subject to Medicare price negotiation, while small-molecule drugs (traditional pharmaceutical compounds) receive a 7-year protection period. This bill extends the protection period for small-molecule drugs from 7 years to 11 years, equalizing the negotiation timeline between the two drug categories. The change takes effect retroactively as if it were included in the original drug price negotiation law.
