HR 1292 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Ensuring the Safety of Our Mail Act of 2025
To amend title 18, United States Code, to increase the maximum penalty for mail theft.
Summary
This bill would increase the maximum criminal penalty for mail theft under federal law. Currently, mail theft is punishable by up to five years in prison; this bill would increase that maximum to ten years. The change amends Section 1708 of title 18 of the United States Code, which defines and sets penalties for mail-related crimes.
