Senate Resolution No. 2030

CONGRATULATING Lloyd Evans upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Lloyd Evans upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday celebrated on Sunday, February 22, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Born on February 22, 1926, in Glendale, Pennsylvania, Lloyd Evans moved with his family to Corning, New York in 1938; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans started working at Corning Glass Works when he was about 13 years old which was against New York labor laws for minors; and

WHEREAS, In 1944, at the age of 18, Lloyd Evans joined the United States Navy and went to basic training at the Sampson Naval Training Station in Romulus, New York, which functioned as an important hub during World War II; and

WHEREAS, During the war, Lloyd Evans was transferred to the 12th Naval District on Treasure Island in the Bay Area where he served as part of the Marine Corps Guard; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans was honorably discharged in 1946, and headed back to Corning where he briefly returned to work at Corning Glass Works; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans completed his high school education through a school for veterans in record time and, by 1949, he had begun nursing school at Willard State Hospital; and

WHEREAS, After finishing his education, Lloyd Evans was hired by Willard State Hospital where he would spend most of his career; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans married and raised two children, Joy and Gary; following a divorce, he worked at West Seneca State Hospital in the 1970s before returning to Willard State Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans married his second wife, Duree Brown in 1981, and he retired in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans with his zest for life, has inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Evans has enriched the lives of those around him through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the profound charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Lloyd Evans upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Lloyd Evans.
