Assembly Resolution No. 1227

MOURNING the untimely death of Arthur W. Jones Jr., renowned professional athlete, admired role model, and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr. of Endicott, New York, died on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 39; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr. distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Born in Rochester, New York, Arthur W. Jones Jr. attended Union-Endicott High School where he was a two-time New York State Wrestling champion; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr. later attended Syracuse University where he was a star of the football program from 2005-2009; and
WHEREAS, Displaying top-tier athleticism, Arthur W. Jones Jr. collected 38.5 tackles for loss in his Syracuse career, the most in the school's history by an interior defensive lineman; he was also a three-time All-BIG EAST selection, earning First Team honors as both a junior and senior; and
WHEREAS, Further, Arthur W. Jones Jr. made 146 collegiate tackles as a member of the Orange, which ranked inside the top-10 in program history for career tackles by a defensive lineman at the conclusion of his career; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr. was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2010, and went on to enjoy an eight-year NFL career, playing a pivotal role in the Ravens winning Super Bowl XLVII, with a sack and fumble recovery in the game; and
WHEREAS, Outside of his years with the Ravens, Arthur W. Jones Jr. spent time as a member of the Indianapolis Colts and the former Washington Redskins; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr. was a pillar of his community and a respected entrepreneur; he owned The Recovery Lounge wellness center and was building his own trucking company at the time of his passing; and
WHEREAS, In his leisure, Arthur W. Jones Jr. enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and the simple peace that nature offers; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr.'s commitment to excellence and spirit of humanity carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors, and he will be remembered for his generosity, humility, and unwavering loyalty; and
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Jones Jr. is survived by his father, Pastor A.W. Jones Jr.; his brothers, Chandler J. Jones and Jonathan D. Jones; his children, Arthur W. Jones Jr. IV, Skylar Jones, and Sydney Jones; his beloved fiancee, Maya Burns; his step-mother, Delores Jones; and his step-sister, Deremi; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Arthur W. Jones Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the untimely death of Arthur W. Jones Jr., renowned professional athlete, admired role model, and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Arthur W. Jones Jr.
