A state bill is a proposed law in a state legislature — separate from the U.S. Congress. Learn more →
Summary
This bill amends New York's Penal Law to add animal fighting to the definition of "criminal activity" for purposes of enterprise corruption crimes. Under current law, enterprise corruption crimes (similar to racketeering or RICO statutes) can be charged against individuals engaged in a pattern of various specified felonies. This bill expands that definition to include animal fighting offenses under Agriculture and Markets Law Section 351, allowing animal fighting to be prosecuted as part of a criminal enterprise. The bill takes effect 90 days after it becomes law.
