The bill requires the commissioner, working with the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, to establish an opt-in alert system allowing farmers to receive text or email alerts customized by their region and the crops or livestock they raise. Each alert will describe incoming weather conditions, the potential impact on their specific crops or livestock, and recommended protective actions for crops, livestock, and worker safety.
