Senate Resolution No. 2162

HONORING Rachelle Krieger upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Residents Forward on June 4, 2026
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend individuals whose artistic accomplishments, civic leadership, and community service have enriched the cultural and environmental vitality of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rachelle Krieger upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Residents Forward to be celebrated at its Annual Gala on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at The Manhasset Bay Yacht Club; and
WHEREAS, Rachelle Krieger is a distinguished visual artist who has lived and worked in Port Washington for more than two decades, building a career marked by artistic excellence and steadfast environmental advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Through her paintings and ceramics, Rachelle Krieger has captured the beauty, fragility, and significance of the natural world, creating works deeply rooted in the local landscape and inspired by the urgent need for environmental stewardship and conservation; and
WHEREAS, From 2002 through 2009, Rachelle Krieger painted en plein air at the Sand Point Preserve, developing a significant body of artwork inspired by coastal ecosystems; and
WHEREAS, These works were subsequently exhibited in commercial galleries throughout the United States and featured in numerous fundraising exhibitions benefiting the North Shore Land Alliance and Residents Forward, demonstrating her enduring commitment to land conservation and community stewardship; and
WHEREAS, Rachelle Krieger organized the first Port Washington Open Studios event in collaboration with the Town, expanding opportunities for local artists while fostering cultural engagement and appreciation for the arts throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, She further contributed to Port Washington's cultural life by curating the community art exhibit tent at PortFest Music, Arts and Community Festival, the annual fundraiser presented by HEARTS PW, and by serving for ten years on the Art Advisory Council at the Port Washington Public Library; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Rachelle Krieger has also juried exhibitions, led artist demonstrations, and utilized public programming as a platform to promote environmental awareness and inspire civic participation through the arts; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her artistic and cultural contributions, Rachelle Krieger has demonstrated exceptional civic leadership through
her service as co-president of the Beacon Hill Women's Club, where she helped organize fundraising initiatives supporting the Interfaith Nutrition Network and scholarships for graduates of Schreiber High School; and
WHEREAS, Whether painting fragile shorelines, participating in community cleanups, or helping restore and protect local oyster beds, Rachelle Krieger has unified her artistic practice and public service around a singular purpose: to celebrate, protect, and sustain the environment that inspires her work and enriches her community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Rachelle Krieger upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Residents Forward on June 4, 2026, and to extend to her its highest commendation and sincere appreciation for her many artistic, environmental, and civic contributions to the Port Washington community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Rachelle Krieger.
