A state bill is a proposed law in a state legislature — separate from the U.S. Congress. Learn more →
Summary
This bill allows members of public bodies who have a disability that prevents them from physically attending meetings to be counted as present for quorum purposes when they participate remotely via videoconferencing. The provision applies to disabilities as defined under New York's executive law and requires that other applicable criteria for remote participation be met. The bill also makes permanent the existing provisions allowing public bodies to conduct meetings using videoconferencing and remote participation, which were previously scheduled to expire on July 1, 2026. This change enables public bodies to accommodate members with disabilities while maintaining the quorum requirements necessary to conduct official business. The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment.
