A state bill is a proposed law in a state legislature — separate from the U.S. Congress. Learn more →
Summary
This bill permits tax-exempt animal protective associations, humane societies, animal rescue organizations, and municipal animal shelters registered with the state to implant microchips in dogs and cats in their care. Organizations cannot microchip an animal that already has an existing microchip. The bill requires these organizations to make best efforts to update the contact information associated with each microchip, including identifying the organization that previously had possession of the animal, recording new owners when animals are adopted, and maintaining accurate current owner information for lost and found animals.
