COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Rockwell Museum
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Rockwell Museum; and
WHEREAS, The Rockwell Museum's origins trace back to the personal collection of Robert and Hertha Rockwell, local business owners who displayed their growing collection of American art in their namesake department store in downtown Corning, New York; and
WHEREAS, Guided by a deep belief that art should be shared, the Rockwells, alongside a group of civic and corporate visionaries, transformed a private collection into a public resource for the community and The Rockwell Museum first opened its doors on November 13, 1976; and
WHEREAS, The Rockwell Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a year-long series of exhibitions and programs honoring the museum's past and its commitment to community, while boldly looking to the future; and
WHEREAS, Erin M. Coe, Executive Director of The Rockwell Museum, acknowledges the anniversary theme, Rockwell Reframed, reflects the spirit of commemoration and innovation; and
WHEREAS, The Rockwell Museum marks its 50th anniversary by presenting exhibitions and programs that illuminate the nation's evolving cultural narratives and elevate the voices of artists past and present; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Rockwell Museum is in direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Rockwell Museum and to honor its members, past and present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of life for the citizens of the community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Rockwell Museum.
