Summary
Michigan HB 4072 allows patients undergoing eye procedures at hospitals and freestanding surgical facilities to take home any unused eye drops or eye ointments provided by the facility if the medication is needed for continued treatment after discharge. The facility must offer the unused medication to the patient, and if a pharmacist dispenses it rather than a prescriber, it must be properly labeled with directions for use. The prescriber must counsel the patient on how to use the medication, though counseling by a pharmacist is waived if the pharmacist dispenses the drug.
