Summary

This bill, the "Connected Consumer Product End of Life Disclosure Act," requires manufacturers of internet-connected consumer products to disclose how long they will provide technical support, security updates, and bug fixes. Manufacturers must clearly display this "minimum guaranteed support time frame" on product web pages and at the point of sale beginning January 1, 2027. The disclosure must include details about features that will be lost when the product reaches end of life and cannot be reduced after being announced. Manufacturers must also notify consumers six months before and on the date the product reaches end of life, explaining security risks and offering guidance on continued use. Manufacturers cannot sell or lease a product one year before the announced support time frame ends, and businesses providing connected products to customers must replace them at no cost when they reach end of life.
