Summary
This bill requires members of New York state retirement systems who change their job title or employment responsibilities within their current employer to execute a written acknowledgement with their employer recognizing the change in their retirement system membership status. When a position change would affect a member's eligibility for membership or ability to earn service credit in a retirement system, both the employee and employer must sign a written statement acknowledging that the member will no longer be eligible for the retirement system on a specific date. The employer must file this written statement with the retirement system administrator within thirty days after both parties sign it. The bill applies to three state retirement systems: the Teachers' Retirement System, the New York State and Local Retirement System, and the New York State Police and Fire Retirement System. The requirement takes effect sixty days after the bill becomes law.
