Summary
This bill directs the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to expand regional farmers' markets that facilitate the direct marketing of farm and food products. The regional farmers' markets are designed to handle wholesale and bulk sales to large-volume purchasers of agricultural products. The bill encourages the department to locate these markets in areas that lack adequate access to high-quality, reasonably priced food and agricultural products, commonly referred to as food deserts. The department is authorized to cooperate with the New York State Urban Development Corporation and the Empire State Development Corporation in establishing these regional markets. The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
