Summary
This bill expands eligibility for admission to New York state veterans' homes to include veterans who have an immediate family member that has been a New York resident for six months prior to applying. Immediate family member is defined to include a spouse, parent, child, sibling, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, grandparent, or grandchild. Previously, veterans could only qualify if they themselves were New York residents at the time of military service entry or had been residents for six months before applying. The bill applies to veterans of specified conflicts including the Persian Gulf War and operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill specifically authorizes admission of qualifying veterans to the Long Island state veterans home at Stony Brook University.
