Summary

Michigan HB 4517 expands the state's Amber Alert program to include reports of missing children in addition to child abductions. The bill allows radio and television stations to broadcast information about child abductions or missing children through any method designed to assist in locating them, including social media. Broadcasters who accurately share information from the Department of State Police under the Amber Alert system receive legal immunity from liability for those broadcasts. The bill takes effect only if companion bill HB 4518 is also enacted.
