AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to electric vehicle charging stations

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows:

1 Section 1. Subdivision 9-a of section 1005 of the public authorities 2 law, as amended by chapter 618 of the laws of 2024, is amended to read 3 as follows: 4 9-a. As deemed feasible and advisable by the trustees, to design, 5 finance, develop, construct, install, lease, operate and maintain elec- 6 tric vehicle charging stations throughout the state for use by the 7 public. Such electric vehicle charging stations shall include spaces 8 that are large enough to accommodate wheelchair accessible electric 9 vehicles, including but not limited to, vans and minivans. The authority 10 shall annually post on their website a report on those activities under- 11 taken pursuant to this subdivision, including but not limited to: the 12 total number of electric vehicle charging stations in operation pursuant 13 to such authorization, the locations of such charging stations, and the 14 total costs to the authority associated with such activities. The 15 authority, in consultation with the New York state energy and research 16 development authority, the department of transportation, and any other 17 relevant state or local agency or department, shall require that all 18 newly constructed electric vehicle charging stations available for 19 public use which are capable of accepting payment shall accept all major 20 credit cards as defined in section five hundred twenty-one of the gener- 21 al business law. 22 § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same 23 manner as chapter 618 of the laws of 2024 takes effect.
