Summary

Michigan SB 716 creates an automatic process for Michigan to align its controlled substance scheduling with federal scheduling decisions. When the federal government designates, reschedules, or deletes a controlled substance and notifies Michigan's health administrator, the state must schedule the substance the same way unless the administrator holds a board meeting within 60 days to determine whether Michigan should take a different approach. If the administrator decides not to follow the federal scheduling, they must publish written reasons for that decision within 60 days of making the determination.
