Summary

This New York bill authorizes Nigel Barnett to receive retirement service credit in the New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System for his prior service as a correction officer with the county of Dutchess. Barnett was employed as a correction officer from November 18, 2002 to May 3, 2006, then with the state police from May 3, 2006 to September 16, 2025. His correction officer service previously was not counted as police service for retirement purposes. The bill allows his correction officer service to be credited toward his police retirement as if it was performed with the division of state police. His retirement benefit will be recalculated if a written request is filed within one year of the effective date, and all past service costs will be borne by the state.
