African Burial Ground International Memorial Museum and Educational Center Study Act
To direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to assess the suitability and feasibility of establishing the African Burial Ground International Memorial Museum and Educational Center at the African Burial Ground National Monument, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study assessing whether to establish the African Burial Ground International Memorial Museum and Educational Center at the African Burial Ground National Monument in New York. The study will examine the availability of collections representing African cultural traditions and slavery history, community and government support for the museum, potential locations, and the costs of construction and operation. The museum, if established, would commemorate the enslaved people buried at the site and serve as an educational center exploring slavery and the African diaspora. The study will assess collaboration opportunities with other institutions, including the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. The Secretary must report findings and recommendations to Congress within three years of receiving funding.
