Ms. Ernst introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources

A BILL

To amend the Energy Policy and Conservation Act with respect to regional standards for furnaces, central air conditioners, and heat pumps.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “Strengthening Manufactured Appliance Requirements towards Thoughtful Energy Efficiency Standards Act” or the “SMART Energy Efficiency Standards Act”.

SEC. 2. REGIONAL STANDARDS FOR FURNACES, CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONERS, AND HEAT PUMPS.

Section 325(o)(6)(E)(ii) of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (42 U.S.C. 6295(o)(6)(E)(ii)) is amended by striking “shall apply to any such product installed on or after the effective date of the standard in States in which the Secretary has designated the standard to apply” and inserting “shall apply, in States in which the Secretary has designated the standard to apply, to any such product that is manufactured or imported into the United States on or after the effective date of the standard”. <all>
