Coast Guard Personnel Equipment Act

To amend title 10, United States Code, to include the Coast Guard in the requirement to buy certain articles from American sources.

Introduced May 14, 2026

Summary

The Coast Guard Personnel Equipment Act amends federal law to extend "Buy American" requirements to the Coast Guard, requiring the service to purchase certain articles and equipment from American sources, consistent with requirements that already apply to the Department of Defense. The bill modifies the applicable statute to include the Coast Guard and establishes that the Secretary of Homeland Security has authority over Coast Guard procurement decisions when the Coast Guard is not operating as a service in the Navy. The changes ensure that the Coast Guard's equipment purchasing follows the same American-source requirements as other military branches and establish coordination between the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Homeland Security for related policy matters.
