Rural Depositories Revitalization Study Act

To require Federal banking agencies to carry out a study on rural depository revitalization.

Introduced May 13, 2026

Latest action (May 13, 2026) Read twice and referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Summary

This bill would require federal banking agencies to conduct a joint study and report to Congress within one year on methods to improve the growth, capital adequacy, and profitability of depository institutions serving rural areas, and to identify federal laws and regulations that limit those methods or the establishment of new rural depository institutions. The bill would also require the National Credit Union Administration to conduct a separate study and report on the same topics as they relate to credit unions serving rural areas. The studies would identify regulatory barriers that hinder rural banking and credit union development.
