Preparing Superfund for Climate Change Act of 2026
To amend the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 to provide for the consideration of climate change, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Superfund law to require consideration of climate change and extreme weather when selecting remedies for contaminated sites. It adds climate change as a factor in determining whether a cleanup remedy will adequately protect human health and the environment. The bill requires the President to assess whether the selected cleanup approach will remain effective after accounting for projected changes in local natural disasters and extreme weather caused by climate change.
