Stopping Transfers of Public Funds Abroad Act
To prohibit individuals receiving public assistance from conducting remittance transfers.
Summary
This bill requires federal agencies administering public assistance programs to require applicants and reapplicants to sign a written declaration stating they will not conduct remittance transfers—sending money to recipients abroad—while receiving benefits. Individuals who sign such a declaration and then transfer funds through a remittance transfer while receiving public assistance would be subject to a fine of $100,000. The bill applies to public assistance programs defined under federal regulations and becomes effective 30 days after enactment.
