Summary

This bill authorizes the federal government to provide grants to state, local, and territorial public health departments to hire, train, and support registered nurses who work in public health settings. The funding can be used to recruit and train public health nurses to work in medical facilities, mobile clinics, hospitals, and provide home visitation services, with priority given to areas that have high rates of chronic disease, infant mortality, maternal morbidity, or limited access to health professionals. The bill prioritizes funding for programs serving low-income populations, rural areas, and health professional shortage areas, as well as those providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services. The bill authorizes five billion dollars annually for ten years, from 2026 through 2035, for these public health nursing workforce activities.
