Responsible Wildland Fire Recovery Act

To provide for cost-share waivers for projects carried out in response to wildland fires caused by certain Government actions, and for other purposes.

Introduced Nov 6, 2025

Latest action (Nov 6, 2025) Read twice and referred to the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.

Summary

This bill would allow the Secretary of Agriculture to waive matching fund requirements for wildland fire recovery projects in areas affected by fires caused by USDA management activities on National Forest System land. Federal wildland fire recovery programs typically require states, Indian tribes, localities, and individuals affected by fires to provide matching funds to receive federal assistance. The bill would eliminate this cost-sharing requirement for recovery projects related to wildland fires that the Secretary determines resulted from management activities conducted by the Department of Agriculture. The effect would be to provide 100 percent federal funding for direct and indirect damage recovery in areas affected by such fires, including watershed impairment. The bill applies to wildfires, prescribed fires, and related damage resulting from USDA forest management operations.
