Summary

The bill amends Medicare regulations to provide relief for certain critical access hospitals that are found to be noncompliant with distance requirements. It allows hospitals that were designated as critical access hospitals as of January 1, 2024, to maintain that status even if they receive notice of noncompliance with distance requirements between December 1, 2024, and January 1, 2027. This provision creates a temporary window during which rural hospitals can receive notice of noncompliance without losing their critical access hospital designation.
