Chinese Communist Party SDR Exchange Prohibition Act of 2025
To prohibit the Secretary of the Treasury from engaging in transactions involving the exchange of Special Drawing Rights issued by the International Monetary Fund that are held by the Chinese Communist Party.
Summary
This bill prohibits the Secretary of the Treasury from engaging in transactions involving Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) issued by the International Monetary Fund that are held by the Chinese Communist Party. The bill requires the Treasury Secretary to advocate that other International Monetary Fund member countries also prohibit such transactions and directs the U.S. Executive Director at the IMF to oppose any new SDR allocations to the Chinese Communist Party. The President may waive this prohibition if determined to be in the national interest, with notice and justification provided to Congress. The restrictions terminate after five years or earlier if the President determines termination is in the national interest.
