To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide coverage for certain fall prevention items under the Medicare program.
Summary
This bill would amend the Medicare program to provide coverage for certain fall prevention items when prescribed by a physician or practitioner. The covered fall prevention items include grab bars, non-slip mats, shower chairs, bed rails, and other similar items as specified by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The bill excludes coverage for fall prevention items that are not furnished pursuant to a physician's or practitioner's order. The bill also exempts payments for fall prevention items from sequestration or automatic budget cuts under federal deficit reduction laws. The amendments would take effect 60 days after the bill's enactment.
