S 2210 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Unlocking Benefits for Independent Workers Act
To ensure that the provision of portable benefits to an individual is not considered in determining whether such individual is an employee of a person, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill would establish that for purposes of determining employment status under federal law, portable benefits provided to an individual shall not be considered in the employment determination. Portable benefits are defined as benefits or protections that an individual may maintain independent of their employment status, including benefits commonly provided to full-time employees and employer contributions toward such benefits. The bill applies to all federal law employment status determinations, meaning that offering portable benefits would not affect whether someone is classified as an employee or independent contractor.
