Integrated Ocean Observation System Reauthorization Act of 2025

S. 2126 To reauthorize the Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System Act of 2009, and for other purposes.

Introduced Jun 18, 2025

Latest action (May 11, 2026) Placed on Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders. Calendar No. 405.

Summary

The Integrated Ocean Observation System Reauthorization Act of 2025 reauthorizes and modifies the Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System Act of 2009. The bill replaces the governance structure's "Council" with an "Ocean Policy Committee" and expands the system's purpose to include meteorological observations and cyber infrastructure alongside ocean observations. It requires the system to include regional and national coastal observations and mandates reporting on how observations improve storm forecast accuracy. The bill authorizes $56 million annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030 and requires that at least 7.5 percent of appropriated funds be allocated to each regional coastal observing system that existed as of January 1, 2025.
