Protecting First Responders from Secondary Exposure Act of 2025
S. 180 To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to authorize the use of grant amounts for providing training and resources for first responders on the use of containment devices to prevent secondary exposure to fentanyl and other potentially lethal substances, and purchasing such containment devices for use by first responders.
Summary
The Protecting First Responders from Secondary Exposure Act of 2025 amends federal law to expand the allowable uses of federal grant funding to first responder agencies under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. The bill authorizes first responders to use grant funds to purchase containment devices designed to prevent accidental exposure to fentanyl and other potentially lethal substances during law enforcement and emergency response operations. The law also allows grant funds to be used to provide training to first responders on how to properly use these containment devices to minimize the risk of secondary exposure.
