S 1607 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To establish an Inspector General of the National Institutes of Health, an Inspector General of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and an Inspector General for the Food and Drug Administration.
Summary
The INSPECT Act establishes three new Inspector General positions: one for the National Institutes of Health, one for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and one for the Food and Drug Administration. The President is required to appoint individuals to fill these positions within one year of the law's enactment, in accordance with existing procedures under federal law. These Inspector General offices would be responsible for oversight, investigation, and audit functions at their respective agencies. The Act provides that these positions be funded from existing appropriations to the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services, with no new additional funding authorized.
