Latest action (Jan 16, 2025) Read twice and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

Summary

This bill modifies the Federal Emergency Management Agency's fire management assistance program under the Stafford Act to increase the federal cost share for fire suppression and response. It requires the federal government to cover at least 75 percent of eligible fire management assistance costs, with states, local, and tribal governments covering the remaining share. The bill directs FEMA to develop criteria within three years for recommending when the federal cost share could be increased beyond the 75 percent baseline. It also requires FEMA to update its policy to allow state and local governments to be reimbursed for predeploying firefighting assets and equipment in anticipation of fires.
