To amend the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include peer supports as a supportive service within the National Family Caregiver Support Program, to require States to consider the unique needs of caregivers whose families have been impacted by substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder, in providing services under such program, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill would amend the National Family Caregiver Support Program under the Older Americans Act to add peer support services as an available supportive service alongside existing services such as individual counseling. The bill requires States to specifically consider the unique needs and circumstances of caregivers whose families have been affected by substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder, when providing services under the program. The bill also modifies reporting requirements so that the Assistant Secretary regularly reports on the program and ensures that information about the program is actively prepared, published, and disseminated to the public. These changes aim to expand support available to family caregivers and ensure that the needs of families affected by substance use disorders receive appropriate consideration in program planning and delivery.
