Ms. Scholten (for herself and Mrs. Sykes) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

A BILL

To require the Secretary of the Army to conduct a study on the effect of new commercial and industrial water users on the amount of water maintained by Corps of Engineers reservoirs, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “Water Reservoir Transparency Act”.

SEC. 2. STUDY ON COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL WATER USE.

(a) In General.—The Secretary shall conduct a study on the ways in which the operation of new commercial and industrial water users affects the use of and water levels in reservoirs maintained by the Corps of Engineers.

(b) Submission and Publication.—Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall—

(1) submit to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Environment and Public Works of the Senate a report containing the results of the study conducted under subsection (a); and

(2) make such study publicly available on a website of the Corps of Engineers.

(c) Secretary Defined.—In this section, the term “Secretary” means the Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of Engineers. <all>
